I use essential oils daily, but always wondered: “What makes them essential?” An internet search consistently revealed that essential means essence of the plant, and essential oils are essential to life. Essential oils positively influence the mind and body, enhancing your emotional and physical well-being.
When shopping for essential oils it is important to look for pure essential oils. In order for essential oils to be therapeutic, they must not be adulterated with synthetic additives or diluted with cheaper oils. At Coastal Pharmacy & Wellness we carry Wyndmere Naturals®1. When I switched from conventional products to natural I was on the hunt for a natural Lysol equivalent without the harsh chemicals. My sales rep at the time introduced me to Household Purifier, and I use it for everything: a room spray, counter top spray, etc. The oil contains lemon, grapefruit, eucalyptus citriodora, pine, cinnamon and thyme. I put 20 drops in a bottle with 4 ounces of water. It smells great, and also I don’t get that nasty headache when using a conventional product.
My 2nd favorite is Comforting Cheer, especially during the winter and holidays. The oil contains clove bud, mandarin, cinnamon, grapefruit, pine and ginger. I love to put it in a diffuser – it really uplifts my spirit.
I tend to use more of a combination oils, but if I had to pick a single individual remedy it would have to be peppermint. Peppermint has many uses: you can rub it on your temples to help with a headache, place a few drops in a small bowl and leave on the counter top, which will help repel ants. It also helps with increased concentration.
